“After a good dinner one can forgive anybody, even one's own relations.”
Oscar WildeThe food in the Southern Atlantic region include many traditional recipes that was first introduced by the slaves and gained popularity because it uses cheap and "unwanted" ingredients like corn and sweat potato. The one dish most southern locals brag about having is their famous Barbeque or simply BBQ. It varies from one city to another based on whether they prefer dark meat over the rest parts of the pork, also it depend on the BBQ sauce used.
Catalina is not really known for its food. If you visit the Island, you may get frustrated trying to decide on what to eat. Me and my friends spent more than an hour just lurking around downtown Avalon trying to decide where to eat. Then we decided to ask someone and fortunately we got a local Avalonian that referred us to "Steve Steakhouse". We were not disappointed, we waited a bit to be seated but the place has a welcoming atmosphere which make you forget about the waiting. I ordered -Jumbo Shrimp prepared Avalon Style- was the amazingly good but a bit pricey.
Another "gem" we discovered on the island was the Big Olaf's of Catalina that served dessert and the best ice cream ever.
